CLUB PHILLY FORENSICS: Youth Forensics Program
CLUB PHILLY FORENSICS is a Saturday youth forensics and drug/violence program that will educate boys and girls in grades 5th through 12th about career opportunities in forensic science through hands-on forensic activities and discussions with forensic professionals. Because forensics also plays a vital role in criminal investigations, students will also learn about drugs and violence.
Forensic science is a multidisciplinary subject that incorporates core science disciplines such as Biology, Chemistry, Social Science, and more. Students will improve their transferable skills such as problem-solving, communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and observational skills.
Workshops are designed to meet the following learning outcomes:
- Hands-on forensic science activities
- College preparation and enrichment program resources
- forensic science & STEM career/educational information
- Mentoring by forensic professionals
- Guest speakers from forensic science specialty areas
- Science-based workshops designed to develop student’s awareness of forensic science, applications, and techniques used by forensic science experts.
- Introduce and develop the skills, understanding, and knowledge of scientific processes and the importance of forensic experts in the criminal justice system.
- Enhance student skills to problem solve, organize, and pay attention to detail by distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant information.
- Learn how physical, social and life science play a role in criminal investigations.
- Apply critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Awareness of various careers in forensic science and education requirements.
